COLONY 2139 is a lifestyle brand that blends modern Japanese design and craftsmanship with California’s iconic aesthetic. Inspired by daily surroundings, the brand’s Modern Home, Work and Life ethos reflect the evolving connection between home and community, personal and professional, and aesthetics and accessibility. The vision of COLONY 2139 manifested into an assortment of simple, functional, design-driven essentials one takes for granted in everyday activities. Creative direction, apparel design, merchandising, marketing, web-design, digital communications & optics were directed by TOWNES.
The collaboration between Ichiro Yamamoto (The General Inc. of Japan / Osaka-based Pal Group) and TOWNES of California sparked when they met a trade show in Salt Lake City. After an inspiring conversation, their similar points of view relative to branding, design and overall product assortment led to the incubation of COLONY 2139.
The first COLONY 2139 retail concept opened on December 12th, 2014 in Saitama, Japan. Due to the store’s success, in 2015 COLONY 2139 expanded to cities in Japan such as Osaka, Umeda, Saitama and Fujimi-Shi.
